Considered as one of the most beautiful cities in Europe, Porto is a treasure not to be missed . Set aside the Douro River, Porto is a city full of history, medieval architecture, good wine, delicious food and friendly people.
Unsurprisingly, the old town was listed as world heritage site by UNESCO in 1996.
Personally, I felt that Porto is a very relaxing city to walk around. There are quite a few famous churches and cathedrals in the city. However, in my opinion, the maze of streets and colorful buildings/tall narrow homes tiled in pastel shades of red, yellow and blue was what was truly unique about this city.
Often overshadowed by a popular capital Lisbon, Porto is a colorful city that offers an authentic slice of Portuguese life. The pace is much slower than in tourist-heavy Lisbon – and in that sense, it feels much more European :)
