End of year is coming, and since we're not planning any more trips in the next two weeks, it's summary time. It was a good year. 14 European countries visited (not including Poland of course), two more times we were on the borders. Many kilometers by car. It was a good year :)
To see a brief summary of Nelson's 2011 travels go here [photoblog.com]
January was very busy and passed briefly with some ski trips in Śnieżnik Massif. February came with the flight to Switzerland. Nelson stayed in Neuchatel and in free time traveled to Jungfraujoch, Zermatt-Gornergrat and… (see next photo).
Nelson went from Switzerland to France (which gives us second country visited in 2012) to see Mont Blanc.
Aiguille du Midi is the highest peak Nelson has ever been so far. 3842 m a.s.l. :)
In April Nelson went to Portugal (3rd country), Lisbon. After doing some research he visited Belem, Comporta and Sintra.
He was on Cabo da Roca, the westernmost point of Europe!
A few days after coming back from Portugal we went to Munich, Germany.
So far we have Switzerland, France, Portugal and Germany. And since we were driving through Czech Republic that gives us 5 countries. We visited Germany and Czech several more times later this year.
In June we went to Eastern Poland to do some research. Nelson was with us but doesn't have a photo :)
In June Nelson went to the Tatra Mountains to teach some students…
And as he had one day off, he went to Slovakia (6th country) to see Belianska cave.
July. Our big travel began. We drove through Germany to Denmark (7th) where we saw (and drove through) the famous bridges…
We entered Sweden (8th) where we spent the night and went further.
Norway! (9th country) And by Norway we mean the whole Norway, from south (Preikestolen, Trollstigen) to the north (the Arctic Circle, Saami land and the Nordkapp!) That gives Nelson also two European capes in 2012 - westernmost and northernmost :)
We returned through Finland (10th country), visiting Santa Claus in Rovaniemi (crossing the Arctic Circle back)
We drove through Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania (11th, 12th and 13th country)
In August Nelson visited nearby Czech Rep. several times…
In September we went to Eastern Poland again and Nelson got his very illegal photo on the border with Belarus :)
After we moved a bit southwards, Nelson had a nice picnic on the bank of Bug river with a beautiful view on Ukraine.
I got Nelson his cutie hats :)
And the last trip this year - we went to Munich again but since the weather was very promising, we went to Germany's highest peak, Zugspitze. Aaaand, since there's a border at the top, we legally entered land Tirol in Austria (14th country!)
December is passing by, cold and snowy and full of computer work.
Nelson is sitting on a warm speaker, looking at me and waiting for our next adventure :)
