16/365 - Plan "B" #3: "B" For Burger... (Mystic Theme Too: "Reconnect")

The Glow

Cozy Night - warmmmm…
Good food - friends- feelings.
Dim lights - ambiance yes -
Punctuated by iphone fireflies.

djr1/16/13

…left uneaten…

Horrible cell phone shot - lots of noise and lots of silence too.

While enjoying my Dogfish Beer , I studied a father, mother and daughter pick at their dinner as they each fondled their cell phones. I guess it's better than smoking while eating - maybe not. Surely not as good as eating asparagus soup while shooting pictures with a cell phone. ;-)

We need to reconnect!

I think cell phones will be next after internet/social networks in causing divorces.
We (usually) turn them off when meeting with people. Oops -- remind me Dan!!!

It is worth a sociological study to look around theatres before the performance starts or any other place with idle people, and see how many occupy themselves with their cell phones at any given moment... it is ridiculous! And I am just joining them... I got my first smart phone yesterday!!!! As soon as I can figure it out, I am sure I will be glued to the screen at all times, and at all places, enjoying the benefots of connectedness, wanting to see the latest comments I got from my friends on my blog, LOL!

I was at a dinner with seven other people. They all had their cell phones on the table, and most of the conversation was about what their smart phones could do, or the pictures they had taken with them.
I hadn't even taken my phone with me!

When I see a couple dining out and one of them is on the cell I wonder how many relationships survive. And a mother on the phone and the child not even being able to talk - even worse! It's so abused! Great post, Dan.

Hate seeing this! My family knows that no cell phones are allowed at the dinner table, or out at restaurants...and other "family and friend" times.

Exactly my sentiments. This reminds me of the following lines of T.S.Eliot's,"The Wasteland"; " "My nerves are bad to-night. Yes, bad. Stay with me.
"Speak to me. Why do you never speak. Speak.
"What are you thinking of? What thinking? What?
"I never know what you are thinking. Think."

When was this written? 1922! I am going back to that poem to read that typist being assaulted by her lover in such a mechanical way.

I am always in trouble with my husband as I have my mobile on silent and look at it when convenient. Hate them, but feel naked without it, especially when driving alone.

Very true - it's a sight you see so often in restaurants these days.

Your capture says it all...................I hate mobiles in eating places, and mostly the conversation is ghastly...........I do not want to know the details of peoples lives...there I feel better now thanks Dan :-)

I comment on this all the time. It makes me crazy when people never look up and are buried in their cell phones out in public.

I see ... well ... read what you mean.
To me it is very annoying to have dinner with a person who shows more interest in the mobile phone then the person on the other side of the table.
And I find it rude as well.
Ok, you had a valid excuse, you were on your own ...

Mobile phones are so rude! they have no concerns about interrupting conversations, dinners, or any occasion really... or perhaps it is the people who are rude... whatever, I think they ought to be banned for anything other then emergencies...

table manner rules seems to be gone now , we always educated our children not to have toys our play at the table , conversation was more important , so I'm not sure if the New technolgy is a gain here.
Especially with most families having different working hours so eating together is rare nowadays so these moments should be treasured , a ban on mobiles in restuarants should rule when out at least with your own family.
