Dinner at Callas

by Susan November. 23, 2008 1131 views

Starting the evening with a nice glass of Champagne.

Our first amuse. Some fried potato thing with a powder of coffee and hazelnut, tartelette of parsnip; filo pastry with beetroot powder (only the tartelette was nice, the rest not so much)

Second amuse; left to right > dutch couscous, langoustine, pannacotta of cauliflower

first course; tartelette with coquilles saint jacques, parmezan and fresh truffle. Very delicate flavours. Wine; Macôn 2006

Third course (forgot to photograph the second one): Fried duck liver with pumpkin
Wine: Vouvray Demi Sec 2006 The combination duck and wine was to die for!!

Fourth course: Roasted dutch hare with red cabbage and sauce of bitter chocolate
Wine: Yawn Chave 2006 Crozes Hermitage (Shyraz) The hare was sooooooo good!

Cheese platter that had SO many different cheeses I can't even remember which was which. Wine: Rive Saltes 1978 Hors D'Ages and a delicious 10 y/o red port

Apple pie and I can't remember which was which for the rest. But I can remember it was awesome! Wine: Jurançon 2005 Domaine Cauhape Ballet d'Octobre

The unsharpness at that point was not just in my camera….

The day after: hangover breakfast…

Happy Anniversary. Please thank Mr. Cookie for his patience while you took pics of everything. ;)

The pairings look fantastic. They served a 1978 Vintage?? -gasp- I agree with 'slim, after paying hommage to Bachus like that, things should be a little blurry.

The blurry bottles are great, captures exactly what you should feel like after a meal like that.

Thank god you had so many courses, the size of them would have left me hungry.

That coffee is my life line at the moment.. Dear god my liver is working hard today. Rez, food/wine wise I think 8 out of 10. Price wise... ouch!
