Sable Island part 3

by Ed Beals January. 03, 2009 5328 views

Wild horses on a distant sand dune.

More horses at sunrise.

Some horse on the ridge above me late in the afternoon.

We found some horses grazing at bit further inland one afternoon.

After hanging around while we ate breakfast one morning, these guys lined up single file before they wandered off.

When you need to scratch, it's handy to have a friend who is just as itchy as you are. There is only one little tree on the entire island, so the horses are always looking for something to scratch against.

The low angle of the sun really shows off this colt's woolly winter coat.

Scratching against the fence. On Sable Island the fences are to keep the horses out, not in.
