Boys and their toys

When my son was small I had a rule in our home: NO WEAPONS (as toys). My sweet little baby boy will not play with guns,NEVER EVER! My husband did not object (or maybe was afraid to argue because I was pregnant with our daughter, who knows…) Martin has plenty of other toys - he does not need toy guns!! Right?!?! ……wrong…Martin used everything (from a spoon to a stick ) and “shot” anyway…I tried to bribe him : look, honey, what a beautiful little car! His eyes sparkled: no, mom, that is a tank , don´t you see it?!?

I felt horrible. My husband chuckled . Where did I go wrong? I provided a safe loving home, with plenty of opportunities for a peaceful play…yet my son prefered to play soldier?!? What is it that makes little boys yearn to play such violent games? little did I know, that my sweet little daughter will make a perfect ally in just a couple of years…and they both will spent countless hours playing various “war” games . Well…I am relieved to announce, that neither of my children is violent, they both survived their violent past:)

Neat post - I don't think you can fight it, it's just the way things are.
