There is a story behind each name...

We visited two synagogues during our weekend trip. The synagogues are museums now…for the simple reason, that there is nobody left, who would use the synagogues for their original purpose. You can find names of the Jewish citizens, who did not survive holocaust, on the walls of the museum. Names…hundreds of names….and behind each of this name there is a story…mostly forgotten, because there is nobody to tell the story anymore.
And here I come to the most intense part of our trip. We found a letter on the wall. It says as much as: you included Kateřina into your transport list. Please let the parents consider, if they want little Kateřina join them in the transport, because she is not of certain age.
Ponder it. Imagine a young couple. They have a small daughter …no doubt they called her Kačenka, or maybe Káťa. And they have to decide - do we take our little precious one with us ..into the unknown…or do we leave her behind…maybe with friends?
For a moment I had hope…I went to the wall with the names…I wished so much I would not find little Kateřina there…but I did.

the letter…please let the parents of Kateřina Krausz consider, if they want her to join the transport, as she is not of certain age….

dated March 27, 1940

and there I found her…little Kateřina

died on the same day as her parents in Osvětim
