Herron of Time

Before I went off to art school my parents took me and my boyfriend of the time (now husband) off to the Southern Oregon Coast. I had grown up traveling to this coast to see my grandparents yearly. It's hazy and misty lore has always held me in a kind of dream world. I would stare out the window of my grandparents' house and imagine living there, on the edge of the world, with the ocean as a constant companion. The mist in it's ever-present state of hiding the reality of life that surrounds us. I remember walking with my brother to the local 5 and dime. (Yes, it was still called that in the 90's. The end of the 5 and dimes. The end of two kids walking down the highway alone without a care in the world.) This particular photo was taken in 2009. We came out of our hotel room and ambled down to the edge to the water to find this majestic bird, just sitting and resting, waiting. Waiting for me, it seemed, to photograph it's existence. Here's to you my friend, here's to you.

Great Blue Herron

I really like how it's difficult to tell where the timber ends and the reflection begins. Great shot!
