The magic of a boy and his dog (and the love of his mother.)

One of my favorite things about shooting children is the interaction between the children and their parents. I love to capture those little moments that you usually don't see and aren't in the albums that the parents present to family and friends to see or in this case for future casting directors or talent agents to see. Way back when I used to shoot film and it was precious and expensive as I didn't develop my own and had to drop it off and wait for days to see if I got the perfect shot and there was no instant gratification as there is today. No Instagram or Facebook or camera phones for that matter. Now I can shoot with reckless abandon and sometimes get some interesting shots. I guess the photography purists would think this is amateurish but I say this is my camera, my time and I shoot as I want. Anyhow, back to this shoot, this young man is a young up and coming actor with a part on an Amazon Prime show that is coming out soon and I was lucky enough to be the first to capture him on my Nikon. The shoot started at 8:45 AM in Palm Desert, CA and lasted 50 minutes. Special thank you to his mother Shawn for trusting me and allowing me to shoot him and a special thank you to James for being so awesome because it was around 98 degrees even at that time of the morning.

Everybody this is James and his service dog.

These were the first shots of the morning in this 50 minute shoot. Sunlight directly in his face!

I would shoot for this child any day!

He totally stayed in character for this shot even with everything going on around him. I told him, "keep your eyes open and stay focused on me." He has my recommendation for editorial or commercial shooting!

Working with both James and the dog were a breeze. I couldn't have asked for better.

He kept giving one good shot after another.

The All-American boy!

This is not a usable shot but that face! Wow! Mischief? Wonder? Puppy dog tails and snails...and sling shots is all I am seeing!

As soon as I told him that's a wrap with this spot , he was walking toward his mom... the dog stayed.

Again, he just kept giving great face, shot after shot.

This make James look three year younger than he is.

He sure had energy! Although I was sapped!! Note for next shoot, I need to pack water!

I can't wait to see what he looks like on film in a few years!

Think I found my new favorite shot from this shoot...unedited, unadulterated untouched...

Thank You!
I'm flattered!
I've only been at this hobby a little over a year, but am loving every moment!
Being 72-years of age, photography is a good way for me to preserve fond sights & experiences, which would otherwise slip quickly from my increasingly "leaky" memory banks.........(grin)

You are very talented! It looks like you have been shooting for years!  I will have to learn some of your secrets!! It has been a hobby of mine for years.  Although I did get paid many moons ago by guy I that used to develop my film to take pictures questionable artistic photos :) of his "friends"  that I never got to keep copies.

Yeah I stroke when I was twenty one, I think this is why I take so many pictures...this way I can have something to jog my memory.
