United Methodist Church Estancia, NM

Passing through Estancia, population 1500 and part of the Albuquerque metro area, we came upon this incredible church.

The stained glass was made the traditional way - individual leaded pieces - not painted on. Another treasure: we met three older ladies there that were very interesting and took an hour or so to talk with us. Looks can be very deceiving, as these were not your "average" elderly church ladies. One was Estancia's first female sheriff in the 1970s, and one was a retired religious professor and pastor!

You can read about the stained glass project here. It's an impressive story on how the community came together and found a way to make it happen.

Making and sharing discoveries like this are why we do what we do.

Bridget and Michael, so enjoyed this story!  The three ladies and their surprising backstories, the effort to save the stained glass, and all of this is being accomplished by a town of 1,500!!  Preservation at its finest!  We used to live in the west, but I've only been to NM once (Roswell!, yes, went to the UFO museum!).  Never made it to your famous balloon fest :) Happy travels! - Beth
