Wind and Ice

Two weeks ago our region was hit with an ice storm. Then yesterday we were walloped by wind and rain.

While teaching my afternoon class, the Dean walked in and informed us there was a tornado in the area, and we all moved to the shelter.

Upon getting home after night class, I found that one of the huge limbs that was broken by the ice storm came down in the back yard. I had used a chainsaw to remove limbs near the deck, but we were waiting on a tree guy to come next week and remove the large and very high limbs. Then the wind hit yesterday. As you can see from these photos, we were very lucky. So far we have not sustained any damage at all – except for the post that holds our hummingbird feeder which was bent. To top it all, we never even lost power. So many of our neighbors and friends have not been so fortunate.

Snap! This larger limb on our Pin Oak was damaged by the ice storm and snapped in two during our wind storm yesterday.

Amazing. Like the other limbs that have fallen, this one fell safely to the side and damaged neither the deck nor house.

Crash!

Thank heavens it didn't damage the swing! We enjoy many hours there in the summer, particularly after our evening walks.

It landed softly, and amazingly left no damage.

This is one little pile of debris cleared from a small tree we had to take down. There are larger stacks of Magnolia branches on the other side of the driveway, but there are huge limbs in the back yard that need to be cut and removed. This weekend my chainsaw and I will be friends once more.

Glad that you didn't have any major damage. We were also very lucky. Our neighbor had a building blown down. We live in the country and have lots of trees around our house. We only had small limbs in the yard.

That must have been difficult, but you did get some beautiful images of the ice, if that makes it any better
