Spring is . . .

I snapped this image in our front yard today, showing our maple tree beginning to spring to life. It's still “early” in Kentucky, and most trees have yet to awaken. (I realize my focus wasn't perfect, but I was holding a branch with one hand and shooting with the other, and my arm wasn't quite long enough – sort of like when I try to read without reading glasses.)

But the best (and perhaps funniest) pictures I could have posted were not shot. My sweetheart and I worked HARD at home on Saturday. She had tended the house and yard by herself for a number of years, and while she kept it trimmed and tidy, a lot of the little things went undone. After drought and invasion from clover, etc., we needed to do some substantial overseeding.

So … we rented an aerator, and I punched and plugged and slugged my way around the whole yard. My sweetie then put down grass seed and starter fertilizer, and I came behind with a knife-blade thatcher and cut in the seed. We are hopeful that our day of hard work will be repaid with a lush, beautiful lawn this summer. We got some rain last night, so I think we're on our way.

Too bad I was working too hard to stop and snap any pictures because they would have been a riot. On the other hand, because I became shirtless shortly after beginning, had I posted pictures I might have received lots of complaints from you people, saying “cover up, big guy!” *grin*

For you to be holding that branch with one hand and shooting with the other, I think you did a fine job! Saturday was a beautiful day to be out and doing something.

I did something similar with an ealier post where I had to hold back a branch with one hand to get the flower shot that I wanted. This picture definately won't get flagged like your other might have:) Good job!
