Roots

This is my childhood home – where I haven't lived since I was 18 years old. The summer I left for college my family moved from this house and out of this community in which I grew up, and I have not lived near there again. In fact, I don't know anything about the people who live in the house now, but during a trip South a couple years ago I stopped and took these shots.

I had a blessed childhood, and my little community might as well have been Mayberry. My friends and I longed to go off to college get out of this little place and explore the big ole world out there. But every year that goes by, I appreciate more and more the warm, friendly community in which I lived and the wonderful people there.

What a great post! I feel the same about the small community that I grew up in. Everyone was your friend and would always lend a helping hand!

What a fantastic post, thank you for sharing your 'roots' with us. I think it's so fun to go back and take a look like this.

Heartwarming post, it is nice to have wonderful childhood memories as do I. Our home is gone tho, but I walk by there and can imagine where everything once was and the life there. Yours was a nice place, do you feel like the people are living in "your" house? :-)

Nothing like a walk down Memory Lane - especially when the memories are good.
Lovely home.

You are very lucky to have had such a childhood, Opie! :) ... not the case for many of us.

I've never lived in the same house growing up because my dad was in the army and we moved a lot, But I get a similar feeling when I visit grandparents houses which were always the same while growing up and no longer in the family. You always get a sense of longing for the past.
