Sweet

My sweet daughter was a willing model this afternoon.  I have a nifty 50 that was my fathers when I was a child.  This lens is probably 30 years old and still takes gorgeous pictures.  Just goes to show you a quality lens will last and last.  It's my favorite lens for portraits.  These were taken at f/1.8 since I need more practice nailing focus wide open. The bokeh!! Wiggle worms make it much harder...every time you go to snap they move!

Pretty sure the focus was on the right eye and the left looks a tad soft The slightest angle from one eye to the other just wrecks the focus

This is when things went downhill or in her case got really fun, lol.

Can you guess what's happening here? It starts with an f and ends with art. :-)

She laughed and laughed and then started moving a lot. Furthest eye is sort of in focus.

I love her curls here for some reason.

Taking pictures of my kids is always an adventure and I get to make some great memories to keep.

Such gorgeous image quality from your father's 30 year old lens.
The amount of fun being had comes across through the photos
so well. Thank you for jumping on this challenge and entering the
weekly theme, you did an awesome job :-)

Thanks Ben for your kind words! I think there's something special about those old lenses. I always feel good about pulling it out and taking photos of my kids with it.

i really like the way you handled the available light, but maybe i would used the sun like a backlight. and about your girl... she is so cute i bet you had so much fun doing this challenge.
Good series :)

That would have been nice. The sunlight on her is actually a reflection from full on sunlight bouncing off a limestone wall. The sun was technically on the other side oh her, lol. Facing her back to the wall didn't catch enough light in her eyes. I'll have to try again maybe with a reflector to reflect some more light back in her eyes. It's always interesting trying to catch decent light with mid tone backgrounds around my house. Thanks so much for your kind words! We definitely had great fun.

Great series of shots! I'm not sure that I would ever get my son in focus at f/1.8. It can actually be a challenge to keep his head in the frame.

Thanks Gene! Ha...the struggle is real! I have 2 boys but rarely get them to sit still long enough for a decent shot. Add in a manual focus lens and you've got a fun photography challenge :-)

I know you think the top one is out of focus on the eyes - but she's adorable and that is a cute pic!
