Henbit.  It's a very common and ordinary (and edible) weed that pops up every spring in our yard.  Upon further inspection though it's less than ordinary.  It's also called giraffes head....

Yes. I'm in Texas and it's been in the 80s already so it feels like spring has sprung.

You will have to wait for Spring for me to get the shot from her garden. Meanwhile you can probably Google it to see a specimen, perhaps....
