'Hippo' Tunnel

Here there are two images of 'Hippo Tunnel' first photo is of one end of the tunnel with graffiti around the sides and the second photo is of the other end before all the graffiti got sprayed around the sides.

This tunnel is known as 'hippo tunnel' as the beginning of the tunnel was spray painted to look like a giant pink hippo

It's a big challenge to do counterlight pictures with stark contrasts (#1), because the human eye (brain?) is so much better at looking at huge differences in lighting while still getting all the details. But somehow it works better with black-and-white photography than in colour, the too-bright parts just get a mystical flair. The same overexposure of part of the picture in colour, on the other hand, just looks like what it is - a technical problem for the camera :)

Thank you! I deffinitly prefer the black and white one, I just love how the lighting has made the graffiti stand out so much! :)

I love the drama of no.1. Why is it called the hippo tunnel?

It is called the hippo tunnel because years ago someone spray painted the entrance of the tunnel like a giant pink hippo but then the council sprayed over it.

Ah, I see - I figured there must be some obvious reason I'd missed! :-)

It's such a shame it isn't there anymore!
