The Return of Finch Fest

by Pete Fitzgetald May. 24, 2019 340 views

I dug out the feeders this weekend after opening up camp, and not even an hour and My lil' buddies have returned... welcome back Finches

Oh and FYI yes that is a slinky on the post of the feeder, the wife thinks it will stop the chipmunks from treating the bird feeder, like a rodent stripper pole and climbing on it to steal my bird friends food.... stay tuned for the hilarity to ensue when those well dressed wood rats show up.

They have no shame, just look!

I love it! Those are really cool feeders. If the slinky doesn't do the trick, I've had excellent luck with black plastic squirrel baffles (there are a bunch of different kinds/prices on Amazon). We haven't had one squirrel or chipmunk outsmart them yet and it's been over a year. smile And I'm a softie, so I put seed out on the ground for all the rodents now.

# 8 so fitting!! smile  OK  I am thinking your wife is unto something. I have not been able to keep my bird feeder full for more than two days, and I mean full to the brim, full. I thought I hung it in such a way that chipmunks or ground squirrels could not get to it. Although, I must admit the bird feeder has been attracting lots of pigeons and crows as well and the blue jay and finch, so not sure who is feasting them most. Then I bought one of those bell shaped seed encrusted thingamagics 😁. My husband had the great idea to hang it off of several "ties" (the ones cops use when they don't have handcuffs ready) from the shepherds hook. Two days later its on the ground with one of the ties broken. I think this entails staying up one night and keeping a watching eye, but.....laziness prevails. So maybe I should buy a mooning gnome, maybe that is the trick to stopping the thief smile
