Detroit was such an amazing surprise.
We did not know what to expect and upon arrival we were quite stunned as to how beautiful it is. Between the beautifully maintained gardens, riverfront, historical buildings, clean streets and the friendly locals – it was such a pleasure being there. We often seemed to be the odd ones out as there did not seem to be too many tourists visiting. The elevated monorail – People Mover was awesome and we used this transport system the most along with walking the streets and taking many photos.
Detroit has such a beautiful atmosphere of hope, positivity and rejuvenation with many buildings being restored to their former glory. The locals speak very highly of their city and their words ring with love. The weather was warm and welcoming, so walking along the riverfront was a relaxing way to start and end the day.
Renaissance Centre was a fabulous place to eat as there was a huge food court on the lower level which seemed to be thee place to be for those enjoying their lunch hours. Greek Town was full of yummy eateries and a great place to take a stroll and enjoy the sites. The free Detroit Historical Society / Museum was fascinating and the staff so helpful and welcoming. This museum portrayed the city’s history in a great and interesting way. You MUST make sure you visit Hitsville (Motown Museum). You need a car to reach the museum but we used Uber which was cheap and reliable. There is public transportation namely the People Mover which is very cheap, road buses and the streetcar system - QLine.
Can't wait to visit again soon!
