Plant

Epiphyllum aka Queen of the Night

Epiphyllum aka Queen of the Night

A little background on my "pet". I originally took a cutting back about 20 - 22 years ago in Texas. The plant grew enormously. In my life travels from Texas to Florida and now back to Texas, I have always had a piece of the Queen with me. The original cutting is still in Texas, and a cutting is with my sister in Florida.

The Queen has a weird way of emitting stems which will sprout "buds" which turn into the most beautiful flower. The sight of the "bud" (might be offensive to some, I apologize ahead of time) appears to me to look like a male appendage. The flower only blooms at night and dies off the following day. I remember how I would wake different times in the night to catch as much as possible of the blossom. Of course, she took her time to do so which meant some sleepless nights!

Not the best picture from the iPhone I had at the time. When she's ready again I will take better captures.

Oh, you can’t get rid of me that easily. I just moved into an apartment an that’s one reason for playing catch up.
As far as doing the Queen justice, I moved her inside due to the colder temps. She thrives on stress (drama queen). I notice yesterday that she produced another stem!
So with that I will need to update her progress, which means I’ll be here awhile my friend 8>}
