[216-365] 5th. March 2021- I recently posted about the project to save our local red phone box. During preparations for the return of the box which involved digging a large hole for the new base it was suggested that as part of the opening ceremony later in the year that we bury a time capsule. Although the capsule won't be buried under the actual phone box because logistics mean we would not have enough time, it will be buried sometime during the summer in a neighbouring spot.
Currently the concrete foundations are due to be poured in the next few days as the phone box is now ready to return to it's new home. It has been fully restored and has a new paint job and will also boast the name of the village in the window light that once said Telephone.
Because it's installation is now constrained by timing we will not have enough preparation time to finish the time capsule to get it under the phone box. Because of Covid restrictions we are also prevented from holding any opening ceremony at present. So it has been decided to plan instead towards an opening ceremony and time capsule burial later in the summer when we hope most Covid restrictions will have been lifted.
The plan for the time capsule is that it will hold items that very much represent today and the last twelve months of the pandemic. We intend to hold a drawing competition for children to draw what they think the village will be like in 2050. We also want a selection of photographs of the village today taken by villagers, and also items like Covid masks and posters etc.
