We had a bumper crop of poppies flowering in our garden this summer (see my entries from the 9th and 12th June)so when they eventually stopped flowering we saved some of the seed heads so we had some seeds to sow next year. Now the seed heads have dried I thought I should take some photos and decide to use this rich, red background. I was focussing on the seed head as I took the photos but was amazed when I looked at them closely on the computer. I'd always thought poppy seeds were just small, black spheres but on closer inspection I see they're actually covered in lots of tiny dimples. It's amazing what you learn from a spot of macro photography!
