I went over to my parents?? house this afternoon with my Mum??s birthday present (happy birthday Mum!) and came up with the idea for today??s photo while I was there. They usually have a band of stones [photoblog.com] between the decking and the lawn in their garden but a lot of the larger stones have been moved while they??re having an extension built. I decided to select a few of these stones for a still life shot and this is the result. I was rather taken with the texture of the front stone ?? some sort of lichen I presume ?? and I thought that contrasted nicely with the red one behind which is much smoother in texture. My Dad told me the red stone was picked up from a beach in Cornwall by his parents while they were on their honeymoon in 1939 so evidently it already had 80 years of family history even before I started taking its photo.
