Fun with a nifty fifty!

It looks like October is going to be ??nifty fifty?? month for me. The Martin Bailey monthly photo assignment theme has just been announced and for October the sole criteria is that all entries have to have been taken at a 50mm focal length. The obvious way for me to do this is to use my 50mm f1.8 prime lens as it saves me having to fix my zoom lens at 50mm and its large maximum aperture should allow me lots of creative possibilities. I started my search for my assignment entry today with a trip to our village church here in Fishbourne. It??s a lovely little church, small and well preserved, and I had the building to myself this afternoon. I started off photographing the organ pedals which were lit rather nicely by a nearby window. Once I??d captured them I noticed this rather elderly looking Book of Common Prayer sitting on a lectern. I liked the way the light from the window opposite was illuminating its textured leather cover, along with the way the spine of the book is reflected in the polished wood it??s sitting on.

Looks like a creative month is off to a good start - there is something very warm and appealing about the reddy-brown tones
