Afternoon off

by Helen Hooker August. 03, 2011 4248 views

We always have an afternoon off on the Wednesday of the summer school so I took the opportunity to go for a walk around the campus before the weather broke. I couldn??t resist going to see the meerkats again, although sadly I still couldn??t get behind the wire fence. It??s a shame that this particular meerkat was sitting in front of a brick wall rather than a more natural looking background but there??s such an intensity in that stare that I just had to post it. After I left the meerkats I went into the walled gardens which were a hive of insect activity. They seem to have a huge population of hoverflies this summer and I managed to catch one of them on camera as it paused to drink some nectar.

Great photos. Did you know that the meerkat has a little face on its nose?
