Cute faces

My year??s membership of the British Wildlife Centre ended today but, as luck would have it, this coincided with their winter Members?? Day so I was able to enjoy one last day photographing the animals at the centre. They always put on extra keeper talks for members?? days and one of today??s highlights was a talk about Harvest Mice. I took my new 100mm macro lens with me and this turned out to be an inspired choice as it allowed me to get really close to them. I also used it to photograph a water vole who sitting on a small island in its enclosure happily munching away, completely unfazed by me leaning over the barrier. While this particular lens may not be an obvious choice for wildlife photography but in this setting it worked a treat, allowing me to capture some rather cute faces!

Who could resist a cute little face like this?! This tiny fellow is an adult harvest mouse and he's less than ten centimetres long, including his tail!

The otters got very excited as their keeper gave a talk about the nearby roe deer - I think they were expecting to be fed!

I've never had much luck with the centre's water voles before but this little chap posed very obligingly for me.

Right at the end of the day this pine marten was resting up in its house and looked so cute peeping out at the strange folks clicking away with their cameras!

They are great as always! How long did you have to wait before that little mouse looked at you? :)

They are all stunning, I was very tempted to save them all to my favourites, but decided on the little harvest mouse in the end...
