Gardening with the masses

My Dad and I visited the RHS gardens at Wisley [rhs.org.uk]today, along with the rest of the residents of Surrey. Being the half term holiday and a sunny day every Mum in the county seemed to have brought her children along to look around ?? I??ve never seen such a seething mass of humanity there, even on a summer??s day! Not to be deterred, after a visit to the alpine house we concentrated on the less obvious (and less child friendly) areas of the gardens such as the arboretum and the pinetum where I found some beautiful bark to photograph. While we were in the pinetum I had a game of hide and seek with a cute little robin who hopped along to the next fencepost each time I was on the verge of getting him in focus. As you can see, I won eventually and he finally stayed still long enough for me to catch him on camera!

By the way, apologies for not visiting any my PB friends' blogs over the last week. Our internet connection has been mostly not working so I've only been able to get onto PB at all when I've been able to snatch a few minutes on friends' and family's internet connections. Hopefully it'll be fixed very soon and I'll be able to catch up with all your posts.

I struggled to capture any really good flower shots today but I found this little gem in the alpine house.

Some of the garden's trees had the most beautiful bark - such lovely colours and textures.

I eventually captured this little fellow - even if he made me work for it!

The tree this bark came from is called Red Panda - very appropriate given the gorgeous colour.

Helen, I like the stories which you tell to enliven your photos!
Your barks are as the abstract art :))
