Close encounter

With a reasonably sunny day off in prospect today I decided to allow myself some work-free time and visited the Arundel Wetlands Centre once again. I concentrated on photographing the wetland birds today and I was utterly charmed by one particular Australian Wood Duck. After gently eating some seed from my hand she settled down on the path next the bench I was sitting on and didn??t seemed fazed by anything or anyone ?? she even stayed put as a large group of school children walked right around her. I??d been shooting with my 100-400mm lens but found I kept hitting the minimum focus distance. Given this young lady??s relaxed attitude I thought I??d try my macro lens and she happily posed for me as I sat cross legged on the ground, only a matter of inches from her. The shots I??ve posted of this duck were all taken with my macro lens and they haven??t been cropped so you can see just how close I was!

My new best friend - a female Australian Wood Duck. What a sweetie she was to put up with me looming over her with my camera!

I couldn't resist taking an abstract shot of her feathers as I was so up close and personal.

There were lots of Mallard ducklings around the centre, from only a few days old to almost adult. I love the quizzical look this one is giving me!

A perennial favourite of mine - the White Faced Whistling Duck.

This Tufted Duck was swimming along in front of the boat I was riding in. He eventually got fed up of paddling furiously and took off!

A Bewick's Swan cygnet, born on 10th June - so cute!

One of the older, and very vocal, Mallard Ducklings.

That duckling is adorable! Would you mind if I tried to draw him? The expression on his face is priceless!
