Speed ?? on land and in the air

Kevin and I had a day together at the Goodwood Festival of Speed today, getting a fix of everything speedy. Once again I took quite a few detail shots but I seemed to have more luck with moving subjects. The Red Arrows gave a magnificent display and we had a fantastic view from the spot where we had been watching a collection of Lotuses (or should that be Loti?!) storm up the hill climb. They??re flying with a team of seven aircraft this year, rather than the usual nine, as two of their pilots were tragically killed in separate accidents last year. Later in the afternoon we also had a visit from a Eurofighter Typhoon which swooped and roared in the skies above us. Finally we trekked up the hill to the Rally Stage. I??ve shot here before and knew that the best spot was beside the jump. We weren??t disappointed and I caught several dynamic shots of cars with all four wheels in the air as they became airborne.

I couldn't resist one last shot of the central sculpture, taken as we sheltered from the rain in the portico of Goodwood House.

This is a wheel from a Bentley 4x4 concept car. I thought the car itself was hideous but the wheels make a great photo!

The iconic Red Arrows. This formation is called Concorde - I think it's pretty obvious why!

The feature marque at this year's Festival is Lotus so there were plenty of them charging up the hill climb course.

Something you don't often see - a Eurofighter Typhoon blasting across the skies above the Sussex countryside!

A Citroen World Rally Championship car takes to the air.
