Flying high

Work has brought me to Cheltenham again this weekend so I took a detour on my way here to the International Centre for Birds of Prey new Newent. I only had a couple of hours to spare but I was able to catch a few portraits of the birds in the hawk walk before watching the early afternoon flying display. Bizarrely I had more success shooting the falcons in flight today than I did the larger eagles ?? something I found completely counterintuitive as they??re much faster birds. One day I??ll finally figure out the perfect settings for capturing birds in flight but in the meantime a process of trial and error will have to do!

Thanks to a lack of internet access at my course this weekend I??ve had to post three days?? worth of photos in one go so please do take a moment to look at my other two posts here [photoblog.com]and here [photoblog.com]if you are able to!

A Lesser Kestrel

I thought this Apomado falcon was particularly pretty - a species I hadn't come across until today.

One of the Centre's juvenile Yellow Billed Kites

A Lanner Falcon in mid-flight

One of the young Yellow Billed Kites….

… and his big brother, giving a great display together.
