Random acts of iPhoneography

What perfect timing. Only last night I read this article [photofocus.com] by Richard Harrington on the Photofocus blog about how and why the iPhone has become the most popular camera in the world. As a result I downloaded the PureShot iPhone app [jag.gr] he recommends in it, which allows me to shoot photos on my phone and save them in TIFF format - not quite RAW but it does allow the control freak in me to have more control over the results. Then this morning, as I ate my breakfast, I spotted Marsha's post [photoblog.com] on the Photoblog forum about shooting with smartphones today and I realised how perfectly everything had come together! As the sun was shining I decided to take a walk in Emsworth, shooting only with my iPhone (something I almost never do - I prefer the control I have with my 7D or LX7) using the PureShot app. This turned out to be a mixed blessing as the app kept crashing - hardly helpful when it comes to doing spontaneous street photography! However, I persuaded it to take some photos and these four are the end result, after a little tweaking in Nik Silver Efex Pro. I guess I should probably have edited them on my phone and uploaded them from there but old habits die hard! I'm looking forward to seeing what everyone else has shot with their smartphones today - you can see the results here [photoblog.com].

I agree with previous posts. Its not about the phone, it's about your eye for the shot. These are lovely! I prefer my 60D but every now and then my smart phone has to do the work.

Believe me Helen, it is not your iPhone which is amazing, it is you, the one who is using it, that knows how to make a great image!

Camera or smartphone, the output is always wonderful. #3 is perfect for abstract art but the #1 is really great.

Well done on all of these! I do believe that without use of apps, many people would never realize that photos are taken on the iPhone.
