Out and about in Lincoln

Kevin and I continued our holiday in Lincoln today where we'll be staying for a few days. We headed into the city late this afternoon and took a stroll around the Cathedral which was bathed in glorious sunshine. I found lots of fascinating faces among the carvings surrounding the west door and did a double take when I realised I could hear the cathedral organist through the door. This in itself wasn't been surprising but his choice of repertoire certainly was - the theme from Mission Impossible! After a bite to eat we returned to the Cathedral this evening where the fading light was growing even more golden by the minute. I spent a few minutes taking some more photos while Kevin relaxed on a nearby bench and the Red Arrows flew overhead back to their base at nearby RAF Scampton - what a perfect end to the day!

Lincoln Cathedral looked glorious in the sunshine. I actually reduced the saturation of the blue sky in this shot as it looked too blue to be believable!

The west door. I found innumerable interesting characters hiding among the carvings.

I found this character munching on one of the pillars!

This horse was giving the tourists rides around the city.

We found this adorable tabby cat in one of the gardens in the Cathedral Close. He was very friendly and I would imagine he laps up any amount of fuss and attention from the tourists every day!

Kevin caught up with Facebook on his phone while I took some more photos.

The evening sunshine created some beautiful sculptural effects on the Cathedral's decorative carvings.

Magnificent Helen! Purely magnificent! I've had to do the same thing with some of my blue sky photos. . and the GREEN! The greens here in Oregon always look fake, but they aren't.
