Empty streets before the storm

With the southern half of Britain bracing itself for potentially the biggest storm since the 1987 hurricane tonight I've taken a few artistic liberties with today's photo for dramatic purposes! With the winds increasing and the threat of rain Kevin and I took a very brief walk to inspect the latest work on the building site around us while we could this afternoon. Things have been moving on apace recently and over the last couple of days the builders have moved back the railings around far end of the crescent. The emptiness of the street, combined with the threatening clouds, struck me as looking vaguely apocalyptic so I got Kevin to walk away from me along the footpath so I could take a photo which I could manipulate to make it look even more dramatic. Of course, in typical British weather fashion, fifteen minutes later the clouds had all blown away, the sun was out again and, aside from the stiff breeze, you'd never know that storm St. Jude (apparently named so because St. Jude is the patron saint of lost causes and it's St. Jude's feast day tomorrow) is on its way towards us. Time will tell how destructive St. Jude will be……

We survived the storms.... did you? there is no damage to any trees in our garden , but our building work looks more like a swimming pool this morning than an extension!

Wonderful work Helen - just how I'd imagine your area to look.
Stay safe and do as Stéfan says - stiff G&T too.

Wonderful sense of eeriness captured and works great in the BW treatment here! Stay safe and hope the strongest of the storm spares you!

Fill some bottles of water and keep candles to hand. I'm assuming that St. Jude is the most maligned saint in the pantheon (?) and hoping he is irrelevant to you.

Good luck! Around here it is always a big dash for milk and bread. And spirits of course.
