Duelling with Photoshop

In Monday's post I mentioned an eBook I've been writing about recorder technique and it's been keeping me occupied for most of this week. Today I tidied up my second draft and set about taking a photo for the front cover. That was the easy part! I use Lightroom to edit my photos and that takes care of about 98% of what I need to do to them. However, for the front cover I needed to ensure the background and text were the same shade as the rest of the book and that meant doing battle with Photoshop. I've never found Photoshop in the slightest bit intuitive and I have the greatest admiration for those who can create the most amazing transformations, combining multiple images to concoct visual works of fantasy. For me it was quite enough to cut out the recorder from its original background and set up custom colours for the background and text. That alone took me about an hour to get it just right and the end result is something that looks as though I haven't done any work on it at all. That said, that was the result I was after so I guess it is a case of mission accomplished, even if I did feel like throwing my computer out of the window at times on the way there!

Sometimes a little bit of frustration in PS can create really great results...like this one :)
