My day in the cafe at Hatfield Forest came to a rather abrupt end this afternoon. The weather was pretty unpleasant all day but by mid afternoon the strength of the wind had reached a critically unsafe level and we had to close the forest to the public for fear of falling branches. Between the staff and volunteers we made sure our few remaining hardy visitors had left the site and put up signs advising of the closure before finally making our way home. Hopefully there won't be too much damage in the morning but it's better to be safe than sorry. Of course, every cloud has a silver lining and mine was the fact that I gained an unexpected hour or two of free time to have a cuppa and catch up on some reading!

wish safe days ...
