The main photographic feature of today was a hawk walk through the grounds of our hotel this afternoon. We met up on the lawn in glorious sunshine and were introduced to Jacob and his birds from Falcons at Laxton [falconsatlaxton.co.uk]. He'd brought along three Eurasian Eagle Owls, two Barn Owls, a Harris Hawk and a Kestrel and we were invited to hold any of the birds during our walk through the woods. I was paired up with Clive, the rather handsome Harris Hawk and he sat on my hand (thankfully protected from his talons by a hefty leather glove) as good as gold, even when the sunshine gave way to a torrential downpour, complete with thunder and lightning! After we'd all taken as many portraits of the birds as we wanted we gradually headed back to the lawn where Jacob flew Clive and one of the Barn Owls for us. With the cluttered backdrop of the hotel and various trees we all struggled to focus on the birds in flight quickly enough but I was lucky enough to catch just one shot of Clive in action which was the icing on the cake for me.
