Running for independence

With this week's Parkrun at Hatfield Forest coinciding with American Independence Day there was something of a party atmosphere and some of the runners had gone as far as dressing up for the occasion. I positioned myself at the 1.5km mark today so as to catch folks before they'd got too hot and bothered. During the pre-run briefing the participants had been warned I'd be lurking in this area so I got some great reactions as they passed by. After the field had gone through I then legged it back to the finish line to try and capture the sense of effort as people strained to shave a few last seconds off their times before crossing the line.

The front runners appear through the early morning haze

That look of determination in the final push for the line

Despite the heat, some of the runners still managed to look like they were having fun, even after 5 kilometres!

Great set! Those were the days when I could run some. Not that I knew it then.

I admire your efforts Helen as much as the running participants!
A great series, especially like the lass with the dog.
