On my way to Wales last summer I stopped off briefly for lunch at Croft Castle, near Leominster. I didn't have time to explore the castle but promised myself I would return on the same journey this year. A house has stood on this site since the 11th century but the current castle is a mix of Elizabethan and Georgian architecture. The estate was owned by the Croft family for most of the last millennium but the house was bought by a Richard Knight in 1746 and it wasn't until 1923 that the Croft family finally bought their ancestral home back and restored it to its former glory.
