Tudor dereliction

We took the scenic route to Chichester today, stopping off in Midhurst to take a look at the remains of Cowdray House. These imposing ruins, built in 1542, were once home to the Montague family and were visited by both Queen Elizabeth I and King Henry VIII. Sadly the house was ravaged by fire in 1793 and today all that remains is a shell.
