The Flitch Way runs along the northern edge of Hatfield Forest, a narrow haven of peace and tranquillity, away from the busy road that runs through Takeley. It was originally the route of the Bishop's Stortford to Braintree branch line, opened in 1869. However, by 1952 passenger numbers had dropped and between then and 1971 it was used as a freight line before finally closing in 1972. Thanks to a road closure today my route home from the forest took me along part of the Flitch Way, back to where I'd parked my car off site. It was a wonderfully peaceful walk, disturbed only by the occasional runner and dog walker, and I thought I should try and capture this idyllic path through the Essex countryside.

Wonderful perspective
Thank you!
