It's been a few years since I visited the Goodwood Festival of Speed so it was a great pleasure to return today, armed with my camera. Thursday is the quietest day of the festival as the speed trials up the hill climb course don't get started until Friday. However, this means there are a lot more opportunities to get shots of the cars without loads of people getting in the way and I spent a happy few hours shooting the cars and dodging the rain showers.

The enormous central sculpture was devoted to the 100th anniversary of BMW this year. However, against a dull, grey sky it was impossible to make an appealing photo of it in its entirety so I went for a close up of part of it instead.

There were some really quite old cars at the Festival this year with lots of interesting details to photograph.

I photographed this BMW 328 at Goodwood back in 2010 but I still found some more curvaceous details to shoot today!

There's something fascinating about these old steering wheels - they have so much more character than the anonymous ones on modern cars.

I'm guessing the sticky note is a vital instruction for whoever was going to drive this Lancia up the hill climb but I have no idea what it says!

There were plenty of modern cars too - I love the rain drops on this Camaro

A modern McLaren

An finally a couple of shots of the brand new Bugatti Chiron

Fantastic detail shots.
