Bumble bee heaven

by Helen Hooker August. 14, 2016 1945 views

I spent a little time this afternoon watching and photographing the bumble bees as they buzzed around the flowers in our garden.  Earlier in the year a group of bumble bees took up residence in our bird box (waste not, want not - the birds evidently weren't interested in it!) so we've had a fairly large population around the garden.  Having taken the effort to plant lots of seeds in the spring in order to cultivate flowers that are popular with bees it's great to see them making use of them!

Unlike last year, the slugs didn't manage to eat all our sunflowers so we've got some beautiful flashes of gold around the garden.

Maybe the bumble bees scare the slugs away???
I certainly think the bees are much more beneficial for the flowers, than the "slippery slimers".....right???
Great shots, as always.......
