Keeping an eye on the traffic

I had the company of Hatfield Forest's red poll cattle for most of my afternoon shift today.  They spent an hour or so milling around near my little kiosk and eventually most of them settled down for a snooze around the nearby trees.  In between greeting visitors to the forest I spent a little time photographing them.  This particular cow spent quite some time using the speed limit sign as a scratching post and I crept up quietly to catch a photo of her which looks for all the world as though she's keeping an eye on the passing cars to make sure they're adhering to the speed limit!

Absolutely - I've never felt at all threatened by these gentle giants.
