Late October may not be the obvious time to take a holiday but the weather was on our side as we spent our first day exploring the village of Charmouth. We strolled down the steep hill from our holiday cottage to the harbour, discovering a rather imposing 1940s Chevrolet Fleetmaster on the way.

Down by the harbour an elderly dog was sitting outside the fossil shop, watching the world go by. He seemed happy enough to pose for me but I knew I'd made a friend for life when he struggled to his paws and walked straight over to me for a full scale cuddle!

Finally, we meandered our way back up the hill, arriving just before sunset and the view of Golden Cap in the distance, with warm rays of sun glancing off its peaks, was just the perfect end to the first day of our holiday.
