Lookout duty

Today's been yet another grey day, lacking in photographic inspiration. I got on with admin tasks and a spot of online Christmas shopping until Lucy appeared from her favourite sleeping spot to inspect what I was up to. She took up another favoured lookout point on the living room windowsill, checking out what was going on outside (or possibly looking for Stanley now he's free to roam!) so I grabbed my camera. It's astonishing what's possible with modern cameras - I took this at ISO8000, a figure which would have been unimaginable just a few years ago, and managed to catch a sharp portrait of her in low light. The icing on the cake was the reflection of her eyes in the window as she surveyed her territory intently.

Great shot! I have a black furball too, and love photographing her (and her sister who is black and white). I'm trying to do a 365 photo project and hope to follow your great tips about it and look forward to improve my skills this way. Happy New Year :-)
