Birds of feather flock together

Hot on the heels of my blackbird yesterday I found myself taking more birdie photos today.  My shift in Hatfield Forest gave me some time to stroll around with my camera in between talking to visitors and I found plenty of birdlife to photograph.  The area around the cafe is a popular gathering place for the local jackdaw population, and they take garrulous delight in clearing up the crumbs left behind by messy visitors.  However, I was rather taken with a pair of jackdaws who sat in a nearby tree, silhouetted against the pale sky.

On the lake a large flock of Black Headed Gulls had gathered, although they are in winter plumage and rather missing their black heads at the moment!

My star of the day though was our cheeky robin, who regularly hops around the near the cafe in the hope of some crumbs.  He was singing his heart out in one of the bushes nearby this morning, and seemed completely unfazed by my presence as I sidled close enough to capture this cute portrait.

I love your cheeky robin. Your pictures mesmerize me I'm going to star taking my first picture of birds soon, any tips?

Thank you so much Claudia! I usually find my longest lens is never as long as I'd like with birds but I guess that's the case with most wildlife! I usually shoot at a large aperture to blur the background and help keep shutter speeds up as these little fellows move so quickly.

He's often around the cafe and is is used to people. Having a 600mm lens didn't hurt either, although I was only about five feet from him!
