A magical combination

There's something delightful about the crunch of crisply frozen leaves beneath the feet and there was no shortage of them at Hatfield Forest this morning.  I allowed a little extra time for my journey to work so I could park at the main entrance and walk to the cafe.  The thick frost was enough to tempt me to do this but the warmth of the early morning sunshine was just the icing on the cake.  Scenes that look rather less enticing in grey, wet conditions took on a magical appearance in the glow of the low winter sun, with the coating of ice crystals sparkling like diamonds.

Ice crystals are so beautiful when viewed at such close quarters

All are beautiful, but the ice crystals are amazing. So much detail, for something with such a short life span.

I absolutely love the tree in the very first photo! Just stunning! The ice crystals and the last water scene are also amazing!

Thank you Loren. We have lots of old trees like that at Hatfield Forest as it's a Royal hunting forest that dates back to 1100. They're so beautiful, even in their decaying state.

Thank you Antonio. It was so funny watching the birds on the frozen lake - the gulls were gathered together on one side and the ducks on the other side, almost as though they were two opposing teams!

You're so right - it's such a wonderfully contorted shape.
