I've always worked on the basis that if a photographic opportunity presents itself one should always at least attempt to grab it with both hands. I briefly visited the Goodwood Motor Circuit this morning, as I was passing by, and found the track silent. This made me wonder if I might be able to photograph my new car on the start-finish straight....
I could have assumed I'd never get permission and given up before I'd started but that just seemed defeatist. Instead I headed over to the track marshals' office and popped my head around the open door. Someone was inside so I asked politely, and with my friendliest smile, if I could please take a few photos of my brand new car on the circuit. The worst he could do was say no so I had nothing to lose. Instead he thought for a couple of seconds and said yes!
Permission granted, I nipped out onto the track and parked up in a suitably photogenic position, with some of the iconic Goodwood pitlane buildings in the background. It only took me a few minutes and I came away with some photos I liked and a huge smile on my face. I was so tempted to go for a spin around the rest of the circuit but didn't want to push my luck and went on my way knowing I'd made the most of the opportunity!
