Colour and contrast

One of my jobs for this weekend has been to find a suitable series of photos to illustrate one of my Photoblog articles, illustrating the effect of shutter speed on a photograph. The obvious choice was to use some moving water. Knowing there was a river in full flow at the bottom of the hill I set out with my camera and tripod this morning to seek out the scene I had in my head. I found that quite easily, as well as some other bonus shots.

While most of my pictures feature the glorious colours of autumn, the final one immediately struck me as being more suited to monochrome. There was something about the contrast between the curvaceous tree branches and the manmade viaduct beyond that caught my eye and I wanted to make the most of this graphic combination.

All are wonderful, really love the first one.  The last one looks more like a heavy frost.  Please tell me it wasn't frost, this early in the winter.
