I find it really helpful, especially at this dark, uninspiring time of the year, to have a specific subject to shoot for. This week's 'abstract' theme, over on the Photoblog Forum, got me thinking about subjects I could photograph while in some way hiding their true nature. In the end I took the close up route, picking the spirals of a notebook. It took a few attempts to find the right combination of light and depth of field but this shot seemed to strike the right balance. I then had a little fun in Nik Color Efex Pro, playing with the various split toning options, to come up with this finished image.

If you fancy taking part in the Weekly Theme do pop by the Forum every Monday where you'll find the latest one. Don't forget to share your themed pictures here on your own blog too!
