I had a feline visitor this morning, in the shape of young Stanley from next door. I opened the French windows to say hello and give him a fuss and he was in before I could say Bob’s your uncle! I guess he preferred the warmth of our living room to the frost in the garden. I saw no harm in letting him stay a few minutes (Lucy was upstairs, sound asleep, fortunately) and he hid under our sofa.

He quickly found Lucy’s catnip whale and took great delight in tussling with it. He has one of his own at home (we gave it to him as a first birthday gift) but evidently it’s more fun to play with your neighbour’s whale! Content that he’d put the whale firmly in its place he then headed back out again to continue his patrol around the neighbourhood.

These made me miss my cats, but I absolutely can't help falling in love with every cat I come across... they have this magical way of making me feel like a useful domestic pet
